Basically for an upcoming machinima (yes I have two projects), I will need to be able to add effects and objects into already created footage.

Can anyone recommend any software for me? Thank you.

The generally used program for Video editing is Sony Vegas and Adobe Premier.

Both have Free trials and can probably be "legally Aquired"

I've only Used Adobe Premier, and you do need to work around with it to get used to it, as it is a pretty much suped up Windows Movie Maker. You can definately do overlays of images(I.e. Inserting objects) and effects however.

Depends really, Look into them first.

The Best Video Editing software out there is Adobe After Effects, its a little bit tricky to learn all its components but it will give you the best Final product... Im working on After Efects myself
